Mike Davis makes another appearance on ABC Radio
Our managing director, Mike Davis, appeared again this week on ABC Radio in the Tasmanian Country Hour program to discuss the Westbury Bio-Hub project.
The main point of focus was the new announcement that the project had received $12.5 million in state government funding. Mike Davis pointed out that there is support from all sides of politics to get the bio hub built, emphasising that the election result wouldn’t significantly affect this new pool of funding.
He remarked that, like any new market, biomethane “does need initial support” and that there are a lot of “collective benefits” to a project such as the Westbury Bio-Hub.
On top of the circular economy and energy system benefits, the plant will generate a lot of jobs, not only during the construction phase, but also for the ongoing operation of the plant, as well as a number of jobs across the supply chain from organic waste residue collection to the intensification of local agriculture.
He also pointed out that the entire plant will be self-powered using the biogas generated onsite. The biogas will be utilised in a cogeneration system, which will heat the anaerobic digestors as well as provide power for gas processing.
