NSW Government launches Renewable Fuel Strategy
Optimal Renewable Gas welcomes the NSW Government’s launch of its landmark Renewable Fuel Strategy to accelerate the production and use of renewable fuels in NSW.
The strategy outlines 20 actions to scale up the state’s renewable fuel industry, including expanding the existing Renewable Fuel Scheme to include biomethane. ORG has been advocating for a broader view of renewable fuels for a long time, and we are glad to see the NSW government taking action.
Other actions included up to $170 million in funding for renewable fuel and biomethane production in NSW, as well as the funding of research and innovation to improve industry capability.
This positions NSW as a national leader in renewable fuel development, boosting regional economies, reducing industrial emissions, and improving domestic energy security at a time of ongoing global volatility and forecasted gas shortfalls on the East Coast.
A robust renewable fuels sector will accelerate NSW’s transition away from fossil fuels by providing a decarbonisation pathway for hard-to-electrify sectors such as industrial heat, manufacturing, metallurgy, etc.
We look forward to working with the NSW government and our investors to ensure that this strategy drives real project delivery, commercial outcomes and emissions reductions.
